FARA Monitor (“we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our website at faramonitor.com and our subscription alert service (collectively, the “Service”). Please read this policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not access the Service.

We collect information that you voluntarily provide when you:

  • Subscribe to the Service (name, email address)
  • Select entities (registrants or countries) to monitor
  • Submit a contact form inquiry (name, email address, message content)
  • Communicate with us via email

Payment Information

Subscription payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. We do not directly collect, store, or process your credit card number, bank account details, or other payment credentials. Stripe’s collection and use of your payment information is governed by Stripe’s Privacy Policy. We receive from Stripe only a limited set of information associated with your transaction, such as your email address, subscription status, and billing cycle dates.

Automatically Collected Information

When you visit our website, we may automatically collect certain technical information, including your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URLs, and pages viewed. We use this information to maintain and improve the Service. We do not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers on our website.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Service, including delivering filing alerts matched to your selected entities
  • Process your subscription and manage your account
  • Communicate with you about your subscription, including service announcements and billing notifications
  • Respond to your inquiries and support requests
  • Monitor and analyze usage to improve the Service
  • Protect against unauthorized access and abuse of the Service

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes.

4. How We Share Your Information

We may share your information with the following categories of third parties, solely as necessary to operate the Service:

  • Payment processor: Stripe, Inc. processes subscription payments on our behalf.
  • Email delivery: We use Google Workspace (Gmail) to send alert emails and respond to inquiries.
  • AI analysis: Filing content (publicly available government documents) is processed through Anthropic’s Claude API to generate alert analyses. Your personal information (name, email, entity selections) is not sent to Anthropic.
  • Hosting and infrastructure: Our website is hosted on Vercel. Our alert processing runs on Google Cloud Platform.

We may also disclose your information if required to do so by law, or if we believe in good faith that such disclosure is necessary to comply with legal process, enforce our Terms of Service, or protect the rights, property, or safety of FARA Monitor, our users, or the public.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your subscription is active and for a reasonable period thereafter to fulfill the purposes outlined in this policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. If you cancel your subscription, we will retain your email address and entity selections for up to 90 days in case you choose to resubscribe, after which they will be deleted.

Contact form submissions are retained for as long as necessary to resolve your inquiry.

6. Data Security

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your personal information. Subscription data is stored in access-controlled systems. Email communications are transmitted via encrypted connections (TLS). Payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe, which is PCI DSS compliant.

However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

7. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access: You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correction: You may request that we correct inaccurate information.
  • Deletion: You may request that we delete your personal information, subject to certain legal exceptions.
  • Portability: You may request a copy of your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Opt-out: You may cancel your subscription at any time to stop receiving filing alerts.

8. Cookies

Our website uses only essential cookies necessary for the functioning of the Service (such as session management). We do not use cookies for advertising, tracking, or analytics purposes. No third-party cookies are placed by our website.

The Service is not directed to individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 18, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.

10. California Residents

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). You have the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to request deletion, and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information. The Service is operated from the United States. If you are located outside the United States, please be aware that your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer. If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we process your data on the basis of contractual necessity (to provide the Service you subscribed to) and legitimate interest (to operate and improve the Service).

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by sending notice to your registered email address or by posting the updated policy on the Service with a revised “Last updated” date. Your continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
